Shillong, June 21, 2024 — The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong celebrated International Yoga Day with a vibrant two-day event, marked by enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. The event was attended by the Director of IIM Shillong, the Chair of Student Affairs, and the newly inducted batch of students, reflecting a strong commitment to health and wellness within the institution.

The event featured a series of yoga sessions, workshops, and discussions led by experienced yoga instructors from NEIAH. Students engaged in various yoga practices, learning techniques to enhance flexibility, strength, and relaxation. The sessions were designed to accommodate all levels of experience, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to advanced practitioners could participate and benefit.

The fresh batch of students, in particular, expressed their excitement and appreciation for the event. Many of them believed that yoga positively impacts their lives, helping them manage stress and improve their focus and overall well-being.

The two-day celebration includes a collective yoga session in the institute’s picturesque setting, bringing together the entire IIM Shillong community. These sessions are a testament to the event’s success, as participants performed yoga poses in unison, symbolizing unity and collective well-being.

IIM Shillong’s celebration of International Yoga Day underscores the institute’s commitment to fostering a balanced and healthy lifestyle among its students and staff. The success of the event has set a positive precedent for future initiatives aimed at promoting wellness and holistic development within the academic community.

The two days MDP on General Management Program for IRS Officers (sponsored by NACIN) was held from 26^th-27^th February 2024 in the Institute. The inauguration ceremony is grace by Prof D.P.Goyal -Director IIM Shillong ,Prof. Rohit Dwivedi & Prof Abhishek Vashist , Shri. Harsha Vardhan Umre, IRS Additional Director General NACIN Shillong along with Officers of NACIN and Faculty of IIM Shillong .

The emphasis of the training  is on Ethos, Ethics, Equity, and Efficiency , the  pillars to Competence Framework for Indian Civil Services1(2014).

A two day MDP on “General Management Program” for employees of DCB Bank was organized on  24^th-25^th Feb 2024 in the Institute. The MDP saw a registration of 180 participants from across locations of  India and as well as from different verticals  . The program laid emphasis on Customer Centricity and Personal Effectiveness for the Junior group and Leadership & Stakeholder Management for the Senior group “

A three day MDP on “Leadership Development Program” for Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), Marketing & Sales (MNS) “ is being conducted from 07th-09th Feb 2024 in the Institute. Altogether 20 Sr Managers are attending the training program. The inaugural program is graced by Prof D.P.Goyal, Director IIM Shillong , Mr Rohit Agnihotri -VP Sales & Marketing, MSIL along with officials from MSIL Faculty and Officers from IIM Shillong.

The program main objective is to facilitate  managers and strategic decision-makers to understand the present industry scenario, current trends, and the changing scenario – both in the automobile sector and in other sectors. The program aims for the participants to understand  the business model for successful running of the business and improve it for long-term sustainability.”

MDP on “Leadership and Business Strategy”

The MDP has a participation of  35 participants from Bandhan Bank  comprising of Branch Heads, Product Managers and Deputy Managers who are attending the training program.

Two day MDP on “Customer Centricity and Consumer Behavior”

The MDP has a participation of 57 participants from Bandhan Bank  compromising of Customer Relationship Officers, Asst Branch Heads and Branch Sales Managers.

A five days MDP on  “ Leadership and Team Building ” is being conducted during 04^th  Dec – 08^th Dec, 2023  for National Informatics Centre, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) ,the technology partner of the Government of India for their officers of the level of Directors and above  . Altogether 28 Sr Officers  from PAN India are attending the training program . This is the second batch from NIC .

The Management Development Program for senior executives of NIC has been designed keeping in mind the present technological and organizational strength and the envisaged future role in shaping the nature of evolving technologies.

A workshop on “Common/Spoken Hindi” is organized on 30^th November 2023 for the Security Personnel of the Institute. The objective of this workshop is to help the security personnel to understand the conversations held in Hindi by the members, guests and visitors of the institute and to enhance skill in interacting in Hindi. Dr. Jean S. Dkhar, Assistant Professor, Hindi Department of Lady Keane College attended the session as an expert in the workshop.

A five days MDP on  “ Leadership and Team Building ” is being conducted during 27^th  Nov – 01^st Dec, 2023  for National Informatics Centre, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) ,the technology partner of the Government of India for their officers of the level of Directors and above  . Altogether 30 participants from PAN India are attending the training program .

The program is designed in a way to help participants reflect upon the positioning of NIC in the prevailing business and technological shifts by helping them engage with the most pressing organizational/managerial challenges and facilitating them to better engage with each other to cope and respond to the unforeseen situations. The above is intended to help enable “Sensemaking” while on campus and improve action while the executives are back in their jobs “

Certificate program on “Business Management Program for Defense Officers” ,altogether 31 officers from Army, Navy and Airforce have registered for the program.

Batch II is inaugurated on 20th Nov 2023 by the  Chief Guest: Major General Sharad Kapur, YSM, SM, Director General Resettlement  in the presence of Prof D.P .Goyal-Director IIM Shillong  ,Prof Rohit Joshi-Chair MDP & Certificate program , Prof Sitanshu Sekhar Das-the Program Coordinator along with Faculty ,Officers and Staff of IIM Shillong.

The Officers are attending the residential certificate course for an immersive campus experience for the next six months .

IIM Shillong organized a “2-Day Administrative Staff Strategic Retreat” from October 13-14, 2023, at the serene North East Police Academy in Umiam. This off-site event provided a refreshing break from daily routines, enabling administrative staff and officers to come together and engage in collaborative strategic thinking. The Staff retreat aimed to develop adaptable strategies in the face of a constantly evolving global landscape to stay at the forefront of management education.

Throughout these two days, staff members participated in intensive discussions on existing challenges and emerging opportunities to foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment. The retreat featured intense discussion sessions and day-long activities designed to foster teamwork, enhance collective knowledge, and strengthen team bonds. These activities not only brought enjoyment but also sparked innovative solutions and improved team performance through enhanced communication and collaboration, underlining the significance of working together to achieve strategic objectives.

The sessions held during the retreat served as a platform for Officers and Staff to engage in meaningful conversations on critical topics such as Governance and Infrastructure, Student Engagement, Faculty and Administrative Staff Cooperation, Impactful Activities, and the Future. These exchanges allowed participants to evaluate, adapt, and refine IIM Shillong’s strategic direction, offering a clear roadmap for pursuing and achieving their goals.

Two-Week Event Showcases Hindi Talent Among Faculty, Students, and Staff

In a bid to promote and accelerate the use of Hindi, IIM Shillong organized a vibrant Hindi Day/Fortnight event, which commenced on September 14th, 2023, and concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony on September 27th, 2023. The inaugural function was held on September 19th, 2023, marking the beginning of this two-week celebration.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the institute’s faculty members, students, and staff, all coming together to celebrate the richness of the Hindi language and culture. Various competitions were organized during this period, offering a platform for showcasing talent and fostering a sense of unity among the institute’s members.

Competitions ranged from melodious Hindi singing and challenging spelling bees to precise noting and drafting exercises, thought-provoking essay writing, spirited rounds of Antakshari (a musical game), and the creation of evocative Hindi poetry.

Participants displayed remarkable zeal and zest as they immersed themselves in these linguistic and creative contests. The institute’s Hindi Day/Fortnight was not merely a celebration of language but also a testament to the diverse talents and passion within its community.

The culmination of the event took place on September 27th, 2023, when the Director of the Institute presided over the prize distribution ceremony. Winners were lauded for their exceptional performances, and their dedication to promoting Hindi language and culture was recognized.

This initiative by Rajabhasha section of the Institute not only serves as a step towards the promotion and acceleration of Hindi but also underscores the institute’s commitment to fostering unity and celebrating the rich tapestry of Indian languages and heritage. As the event concluded on a high note, participants and attendees left with a renewed appreciation for Hindi and a sense of camaraderie that will continue to strengthen the institute’s community bonds in the years to come.

MDP on “UTKARSH-Capability Building Program” for Channel Partners of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd is being organised during 26^th – 28^th September, 2023 in the Institute.

30 Channel partners from east Region are attending the training program .The inaugural program was presided by Prof Rohit Joshi -Chairperson MDP Programs  and Inaugurated in the presence of MR. DEBASHIS NAIK, HEAD RETAIL (EAST) and MR. RAHUL TANDON, CHIEF GENERAL MANAGER MARKETING (RETAIL) from BPCL . Officials from BPCL along with Faculty and Officers of IIM Shillong are also present during the inauguration . This program is being coordinated by Prof Bidyut J.Gogoi and Prof Sitansu Sekhar Das .

Mr Naik in his address, expressed his heartful gratitude to the Channel Partners for their contributions to BPCL and commended IIM Shillong as one of the most serene place for learning .

The MDP on “ Creative Problem Solving using Design Thinking ” for executives of ONGC is being organized from 18th-22th Sept 2023 in IIM Shillong Campus.

25 executives from across India are attending the training program to develop a mindset of global managers with thrust on innovation and creativity using concepts of Design Thinking and also to Apply creative problem-solving techniques for idea generation and structuring in a systematic manner.

The inaugural program was Inaugurated in the presence of Prof D.P.Goyal -Director IIM Shillong  and was presided by Prof Rohit Joshi-Program Coordinator .

IIM Shillong Faculty Converge for a Transformative Two-Day Strategic Retreat

As a part of the ongoing celebrations, on the completion of 15 years of IIM Shillong, the faculty members went for a 2-day retreat from September 16 to 17, 2023. The two days included deliberations about the road ahead as well as numerous fun-filled activities and games.

IIM Shillong hosted a “2-Day Faculty Strategic Retreat” from September 16th to 17th, 2023, at the scenic North East Police Academy in Umiam. This off-site event proved to be a transformative experience for all participating faculty members, offering them a respite from their daily operational routines and come together to collaboratively brainstorm on strategic thinking . The retreat aimed to  pave the way for a more dynamic and adaptable educational strategy in an ever-changing global landscape.

Over the course of two days, the retreat featured intense discussion sessions and day-long activities designed for brainstorming, teamwork, and collaboration. Faculty members engaged in deep discussions about existing and emerging challenges and opportunities to stay at the forefront of holistic management education. The team activities were not only enjoyable but helped ideate innovative solutions together and improve team performance through facilitation and communication; emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving strategic goals.

The sessions held during the retreat provided a valuable forum for faculty members to engage in meaningful conversations on crucial topics such as Teaching and Learning, Governance and Infrastructure, Student Engagement, and Managing Stakeholder Expectations. These exchanges allowed participants to assess, adapt, and reformulate the strategic direction of IIM Shillong, providing a clear path to pursue and achieve their objectives.

The MDP on “General Management” with special emphasis on Finance for Managers of DCB Bank, sponsored by HDFC Life is being organized from 14^th-15^th Sept 2023 in IIM Shillong Campus.

Altogether a diverse but cohesive group of 46 participants from Front line Sales ,Branch Operations, along with Senior Management Members from across India are attending the training program.

The inaugural program was presided by Prof Rohit Joshi (Chairperson MDP & Consultancy) and Prof Sharad Nath Bhattacharya, who stressed on inclusive and collaborative peer learning.

The “Lecture Cum Awareness Program on Substance Abuse Prevention” held on 29th August, 2023, at the Auditorium, marked an impactful and enlightening event aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse prevention.

The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to the attendees, who eagerly gathered to gain valuable insights into substance abuse prevention. Dr. Lajja Ram Bishnoi, IPS, Director General of Meghalaya Police delivered an engaging and informative lecture, shedding light on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and fostering positivity within the campus community.

The event fulfilled its objective of providing a distinct learning experience and fostering positivity within the campus community.

A 2-days Symposium on Community Based Tourism in North East India was organised by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Anlaysis, IIM Shillong on 10th and 11th of August 2023.  

The symposium was inaugurated by Shri. Temjen Imna Along, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of Nagaland in the presence of Shri. Gaigongdin Panmei, IRS, NEC, Shri Atul Kulkarni, member, BOG of IIM Shillong and Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong. The Centre Coordinator of Dr. Kalam Centre, IIM Shillong, Dr. Sanjeev K Ningombam welcomed the dignitaries, esteemed guests and all the participants to the event. Setting the tone of the symposium Dr. Ningombam emphasised on refining CBT scenario in NER and the need for developing a conducive CBT framework in the context of NER.  

Prof. D. P. Goyal in his inaugural address highlighted that government agencies and all tourism stakeholders should work in convergence. He emphasised on addressing the pain points, inhibitors of tourism industry using technology. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards promoting a seamless tourist experience and in developing a robust ecosystem.  

Shri. G. Panmei, addressing the gathering focused on the call for a common Tourism Policy of NER. According to him, the need of the hour is to develop a matrix for circuits across all the 8 states of North East India. Certain issues like ILP and prohibition policy which should be relooked and a common process of registration among those states should be initiated. There is a need to sensitize the people at village level for Community Based Tourism regarding infrastructure, marketing of local cuisines, community participation and other important factors. 

Shri. Atul Kulkarni in his address focused on how CBT is an alternative and is also an answer in addressing the disruption in the expanding tourism industry of NER. For this alternative to be successful, the locals need to develop an insight and also to be sensitized as to how CBT can lead to resilient economy at the community level. He also mentioned the role of education and local empowerment leading to tourism value chain creation.  

The Chief guest of the symposium Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, Shri. Temjen Imna Along highlighted the importance of experiential tourism at community level as tourism cannot function in a standalone manner. Experience through tourism should be the focus. North Eastern Region should give the experience to the tourists from other states and other countries. Things have changed drastically in last 10 years and with time better connectivity across the states have changed the tourism scenario. He also mentioned that most of the destinations in North Eastern Region are yet to be explored. In order to experience seamless tourism, linkages should be made and multi ethnic culture should be promoted.  

The first day of the symposium had sessions on Community Based Tourism in NER, Role of Government in Developing Tourism Eco-systems and Idea exchange- Best Practices. The discussions had Tourism Directors as speakers from Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. The other speakers included tour operators, homestay aggregator and entrepreneurs from Destination Management Organization (DMOs).  

The second day technical sessions were graced by the presence of tour operators, community leaders and academicians. The topics focused on Exploring opportunities under CBT in the context of 4 C’s- conservation, culture, community and commerce, Community concerns and participation and CBT Business Models.  The discussions revolved around how local communities can enhance tourism experiences at community level by envisaging on ‘vocal for local’ in the fragile ecosystem of the region, inclusiveness in tourism, leader’s role in leading a community and reviving indigenous practices. The sessions also focused on how tourism at the community level could help to march towards inclusiveness, resilience and sustainability. It was mentioned that the transactions should be relational rather than transactional. 

Overall the symposium directed towards the need for a framework that would redefine the structure of CBT in NER with an aim of responsible and sustainable tourism through community participation. 

The guest of honour for the valedictory session was the Advisor Tourism & Industry, NEC, Smt. R. Lalrodingi.  Her enriching speech threw light on branding Destination Northeast. She emphasised on youth engagement and community participation for documenting folklores across 8 states so that variations in them can be avoided. She also added that the policy framework should take into consideration all possible aspects leading to resilient community. 

The valedictory session was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of Social Welfare, Tourism, Arts & Culture and Textiles Shri Paul Lyngdoh and in his speech he highlighted the need to explore the immense potential of harnessing community resources to create a harmonious balance between tourism and indigenous culture which would play a pivotal role in our journey towards sustainable development and cultural preservation. He emphasised on renewed sense of positioning a destination and a roadmap for the future that integrates the ideals of community-Based Tourism into every facet of our planning and execution. 

The 2-days symposium was finally concluded with a collective understanding on developing a framework and initiate CBT projects under pilot study in all states of NER. 

The Indian Institute of Management Shillong, in collaboration with HDFC Bank, recently concluded its highly successful 4th annual Blood Donation Drive. Organized by the Ecobiz Club, the event aimed to contribute to the noble cause of saving lives through blood donation. The drive, which saw a remarkable turnout of participants, was inaugurated by Director Prof DP Goyal, in the presence of Chairperson Student Affairs Prof. Rohit Dwivedi, Chairperson PGP Prof. Subhadip Mukherjee amongst others. The event witnessed over 120 generous donations, all of which will be directed to the Regional Blood Bank Centre at Pasteur Institute, Shillong. Additionally, the participants were rewarded with refreshments and certificates to express appreciation for their valuable contributions.

The blood drive witnessed an overwhelming response from the IIM Shillong community and beyond. A total of more than 120 participants donating blood around 40,000 MLs, including students, faculty, and staff, came forward to donate blood. Their selfless acts will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the lives of those in need.

All the blood donations received during the drive will be directed to the Regional Blood Bank Centre at Pasteur Institute, Shillong. This collaboration ensures that the donations will reach those who require immediate medical attention, thereby saving lives within the region. The partnership between IIM Shillong through the Ecobiz Club, HDFC Bank, and Pasteur Institute demonstrates the collective efforts made by various stakeholders to address the critical shortage of blood in emergencies.

To ensure the smooth operation of the blood donation process and the well-being of the donors, a team of 20 medical professionals including the in-house medial team, were present throughout the event. Their expertise and dedication played a vital role in assuring the safety and comfort of the participants.

Recognizing the selfless act of donating blood, the Ecobiz Club, in collaboration with HDFC Bank, provided refreshments to all participants. Additionally, certificates of appreciation were distributed to express gratitude for their valuable contributions. Such gestures of acknowledgment and encouragement further motivate individuals to participate in similar initiatives in the future.

The event exemplified the institution’s commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to making a positive impact on the community.

The MDP on “Contemporary Project Management” is sponsored by Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India and is being organized from 10^th July-14^th July 2023 in IIM Shillong Campus.

A total of 38 participants from across India are currently attending the training program.

The inaugural program is graced by Prof D.P.Goyal,Director IIM Shillong along with Faculty and Officers from IIM Shillong.

The five day training program is coordinated by Prof. Rohit Joshi and Prof Mousami Bhattacharya.

The first International Week (I-Week) of the Indian Institute of Management Shillong was inaugurated on July 3, 2023. The I-Week brings together talented students from international business schools across the globe for a week of interactive learning through guest lectures by renowned speakers, group work, a learning tour to unique locations, and a cultural visit.

The welcome address was delivered by Director IIM Shillong, Prof. D. P. Goyal. Prof. Goyal spoke about the vision and mission of IIM Shillong. He mentioned that IIM Shillong aspires to be an internationally recognized management institute with global outlook grounded in the values of sustainability, ethical leadership, compassion and intellectual freedom. Chairperson, External Relations, Prof. Parijat Upadhyay introduced the program in his address. He welcomed the participants and highlighted the impressive strides in the internationalization efforts of IIM Shillong with multiple collaborations with international academic institutes across the globe. The Guest of Honour, Prof. Uwe Seebacher also addressed the gathering. He expressed delight at the opportunity to be in India and interact with young students. He emphasized how students are the brand ambassadors for IIM Shillong and encouraged all participants to imbibe the learnings in the forthcoming sessions. The session was concluded by Dr. Sanjoy Mukherjee who extended the vote of thanks and informed that the I-Week is co-incidentally being inaugurated on the auspicious Guru Poornima, a day for expressing reverence to all intellectual masters.

The Indian Institute of Management Shillong, witnessed a vibrant and enlightening celebration on International Yoga Day. The celebration commenced with an aura of tranquillity as the participants, including students, faculty, and staff, gathered in the serene surroundings of the campus.

Prof. D P Goyal, in his opening address, emphasized the significance of Yoga Day and its connection to the theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “the world is one family.” He spoke eloquently about how yoga transcends boundaries, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities.

“Yoga is a timeless practice that goes beyond language, religion, or nationality limitations,” Director Goyal expressed. “It teaches us to embrace our similarities, appreciate our differences, and recognize that we are all part of one interconnected global family.”

He further highlighted the relevance of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in the modern world, which faces numerous challenges requiring collective effort and compassion. The concept of unity and oneness, as encapsulated in this ancient Indian philosophy, has the potential to foster understanding, empathy, and cooperation across nations.

Following the Director’s speech, a team of yoga instructors from NEIAH guided the participants through a series of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation techniques.

As the participants immersed themselves in the practice, an overwhelming sense of harmony and unity pervaded the gathering. The IIM Shillong community truly embraced the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, acknowledging the interconnectedness of all beings and celebrating diversity.

The event concluded with a joint meditation session, during which everyone joined in silence, fostering a deep sense of introspection and interconnectedness. The participants left the venue with renewed energy, a refreshed mind, and a deeper appreciation for the universal values promoted by yoga and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

As the candles burned brightv, their light symbolized the illumination of minds and hearts, igniting a spark of unity that will continue to inspire and guide the IIM Shillong community in their pursuit of knowledge, growth, and service to humanity.

IIM Shillong signed MOU with Sunway University, Malaysia, on 12th June, 2023. The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen the academic collaboration between the two institutions. This MoU was signed by Prof. D. P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong and Prof. Marc Lim, Dean, Sunway University Business School

The MDP on “Project Financing and Execution” is sponsored by Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India and is being organized from 12^th June-16^th June 2023 in IIM Shillong Campus.

Altogether a diverse group of 31 participants from across India are attending the training program.

The inaugural program was presided by Prof Rohit Joshi (Chairperson MDP & Consultancy) where he shared that the objective of the training program is to facilitate collaborative peer learning   and to bridge the gap between technical and financial aspects of Project Management.

The five day training program is coordinated by Program Director(s) Prof.Neelam Rani and Prof Kailash Choudhary from IIM Shillong

IIM Shillong signed an MoU with Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. This MoU permits the exchange of scholars, faculty members, professional staff members, students, and academic information between both institutions.

Most of the employees in the institute do not have knowledge of typing in Hindi, keeping in mind the curiosity related to typing and Hindi font many times by officers and staff, on 16th March 2023 one day Hindi Workshop, on “Working in Hindi Unicode on Computer” was organized. The main objective of the workshop is to provide typing facility in Hindi in a simple way.

Shri Rajesh Chaturvedi, Chief Manager, State Bank of India was invited as an expert for this topic. This session was very interesting and informative.

Niveshak, the Finance and Investment Club of the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, has completed the first round of funding for their student-run investment fund, the Niveshak Investment Fund (NIF), a diversified equity portfolio that aims for growth through a focused and optimally diversified portfolio strategy. The fund’s primary objective is to practice, implement and apply classroom learning and education to build security analysis, portfolio management, and business valuation skills while comprehensively understanding the risks associated with the investment into the capital markets.

NIF will open doors for students to be investors and get involved in learning more about the practical aspects of the stock market.

For the students managing the fund, it will be an opportunity to get hands-on experience in fund management and apply the concepts learned during the rigorous MBA program.

The presence of faculties and students graced the Niveshak Investment Fund launch. During the fund launch, Prof. Sharad Nath Bhattacharya, IIM Shillong, said, “I have a vision that this fund will grow to have different branches- social ventures and different kinds of theme-based investments, which can possibly prompt more students to contribute to the fund and make it more inclusive, along with providing them an avenue to apply their classroom learnings.”

Niveshak Investment Fund raised a whooping ₹12.5+ lakhs in the first round of fund collection with 230+ investors, crossing a corpus of ₹14 lakhs. For the fund, it is the first time they have raised investments from the vast community of IIM Shillong.

Mr. Thangjam Aditya, a Full-Time Ph.D. Scholar of IIM Shillong was one of the 1000 brilliant young minds who were selected to be a part of ‘UNLEASH Global Innovation Lab India 2022’ from a huge pool of applicants from across the globe. The seven-day Design Thinking Lab was hosted at the Infosys campus, Mysore, from 3rd to 10th of December 2022. He was a part of the four-member team who won the ‘Most Scalable Solution’ award, which offers a one-year partnership sponsored by Chemonics International. They proposed a viable and easy-to-implement ‘Three Layer Roof Pad to Reduce Temperatures in Heatwave-Affected Areas’ under SDG 7 – Affordable & Clean Energy.”

IIM Shillong started a 6 months Certificate Program on “Business Management Program” for Defence Officers under the aegis of Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) from 1^st Aug 2022 to 31 Jan 2023.

A 6 months Certificate Program on “Business Management Program”, focusing on General Management competencies, is being organised by IIM Shillong for the Defence officials under the aegis of Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) from 1^st Aug 2022 to 31 Jan 2023 at IIM Campus.

The 6 Months program is being attended by 29 participants who have joined from across the country under Army, Navy and Air force. The programme was inaugurated on 5 Aug 22 by Air Marshal D K Patnaik, AVSM,CM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Eastern Air Command, in the presence of Prof. D P Goyal, Director IIM Shillong along with Faculty and Staff of IIM Shillong.

A General Management Program, focusing on leadership competencies, is being organised by IIM Shillong for the officials from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) from 4^th to 9^th July 2022 at IiPM (Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management) Campus Gurugram.

The 6 day program has the participation from 29 participants who have joined from across the country. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Rajiv Ranjan, CGM (L & D), IiPM. Prof Atul Mehta, Prof. Sitanshu Sekhar Das and Prof. Vibhas Amawate, MDP Chair from IIM Shillong also participated in the event.

A residential General Management Program, focusing on leadership competencies, is being organised by IIM Shillong for the officials from RBI from 22 to 25 June 2022 at IIM Umswali campus. The 4-day program has the participation from 21 participants who have joined from across the country. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. D P Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong along with the Faculty and Officers from IIM Shillong.

IIM Shillong organized an awareness program on the ill effects of drugs on 18th June 2022 at their new campus in Umswali. This program aimed to realize the Govt. of India’s dream of “Drug-Free India,” which is also a part of Anti-Drug Pakhwara. The session was graced by Shri Rajesh Chandra Shukla, Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Guwahati, and his team.

The seminar began with Mr. Shukla explaining the fundamental differences between therapeutic drug usage and non-therapeutic drug usage, highlighting how non-therapeutic drug usage was the key cause of concern. The discussion covered the differences in the types of drugs, namely natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic drugs. The team illuminated the audience on the various sources of commonly found drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, etc. Also, he explained the classification of these drugs based on the side effects caused by them, namely Sedatives, Stimulants, and Hallucinogens.

He shed light on the different detrimental effects these drugs have on the human body, and the team went over pointers to avoid and overcome addiction to these substances. Shri Rajesh Chandra Shukla left the participants with the following quote: “Curiosity starts drug consumption, Adventurism builds it, and Peer pressure sustains it…” and urged them to not indulge in such practices. He, along with the students of IIM Shillong, pledged not to consume unwanted drugs and raise awareness in society.

IIM Shillong signed an MoU with the Regents of the University of California on behalf of its Riverside Campus, USA on 18th May, 2022.

IIM Shillong conducts “Online Training Programs/Workshop for Executives of central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and State Level Public Enterprise (SLPEs) for FY 2021-22 under RDC Scheme of Department of Public Enterprise”.

A 3 day MDP Program, focusing on series of topics, is being organised by IIM Shillong for the Executives of central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and State Level Public Enterprise (SLPEs) for FY 2021-22 under RDC Scheme of Department of Public Enterprise” starting from 22 – 24 Dec, 2021 . The program has the participation of 27 officers who are joining (virtually) from across the country. The program coordinator Prof. Vibhas Amawate (Chairperson MDP )inaugurated the program along with other faculty and staff of IIMS.

The course is designed to be innovative in order to inculcate innovative managerial skills and relevant global exposure among the participants.

The program was launched by Prof. D P Goyal, Director IIM Shillong while Prof Vibhas Amawate – Chair MDP welcomed 87 participants. Faculties from their respective areas briefed about the course & evaluation criteria.

The MoU was signed by Prof D P Goyal Director Indian Institute of Management Shillong and Smt. Laya Madduri, IAS, Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Assam and Additional Project Director ASPIRe (Assam State Public Finance Institutional Reforms) Government of Assam. The Parties agree to jointly work towards training and capacity building of Finance Officials in the domain of Public Finance Management and building managerial capabilities among officials. The program has the participation of 22 officers who are joining (virtually) from across the country. The Hindi Fortnight (Hindi Pakhwada) at IIM Shillong which is being regularly held annually, and organized in earnest every year was drawn to a close on 30 September, 2021. Gracing the prize distribution ceremony, Shri Nitin Sharma -Member, Board of Governors expressed satisfaction on the overall spirit of participation shown by students, faculty, officers & staff, while also congratulating the winners of various events during the prize distribution ceremony. Sharing on the scientific semblance and nature of the Hindi language, he urged the working staff of IIM Shillong to grasp the opportunity to learn and take advantage of the power of language which can assist in bettering one’s communication and general bonding skills, while also upholding the essence and importance of one’s mother tongue.

Prof DP Goyal applauded the initiative and encouraged each and every member of the fraternity to appreciate the diversity, beauty and power of language as a tool for nation building. Prof. Goyal also expressed his happiness to note that members of the fraternity could manage to participate enthusiastically in events despite the demanding rigour of work, while also acknowledging the presence of talent amongst the members of the Institute, which he said should be encouraged, nurtured, and showcased.

A range of competitive literary and extracurricular events such as Essay Writing, Extempore Speech, Noting and Drafting, Singing and Antakshri were organized to mark the celebrations.

भाप्रसं शिलाँग में हिंदी पखवाड़ा का समापन् समारोह

भाप्रसं शिलाँग में नियमित रूप से प्रत्येक वर्ष तहेदिल से आयोजित की जाने वाली हिंदी पखवाड़ा 30 सितंबर 2021 को समाप्त होकिया गया। पुरस्कार वितरण समारोह की शोभा बढ़ाते हुए, श्री नितिन शर्मा – सदस्य, शासी मंडल ने पुरस्कार वितरण समारोह के दौरान विभिन्न आयोजनों के विजेताओं को बधाई देते हुए छात्रों, शिक्षकों, अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों द्वारा दिखाई गई भागीदारी की समग्र भावना पर संतुष्टि व्यक्त किया । हिंदी भाषा की वैज्ञानिक प्रवृत्ति और प्रकृति साझा करते हुए, उन्होंने भाप्रसं शिलाँग के कार्यरत कर्मचारियों से भाषा को सीखने के अवसर का लाभ उठाने और भाषा की शक्ति का लाभ उठाने का आग्रह किया, जो किसी के संचार और सामान्य संबंध कौशल को बेहतर बनाने में सहायता कर सकता है, साथ ही साथ मातृभाषा की प्रकृति और महत्व पर भी विचार व्यक्त किया। प्रो डी.पी गोयल ने इस पहल की सराहना की और संस्थान के प्रत्येक सदस्य को राष्ट्र निर्माण के लिए एक उपकरण के रूप में भाषा की विविधता, सुंदरता और शक्ति की सराहना करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया। प्रो. गोयल ने इस बात पर भी प्रसन्नता व्यक्त की कि कार्य के व्यस्तता के बावजूद संस्थान के सभी सदस्य उत्साहपूर्वक कार्यक्रमों में भाग ले पाये, और संस्थान के सदस्यों के बीच प्रतिभा की उपस्थिति को स्वीकार करते हुए, कहा कि इसे जिसे प्रोत्साहित, पोषित और प्रदर्शित किया जाना चाहिए। समारोह को चिह्नित करने के लिए निबंध लेखन, आशु भाषण, टिप्पण व आलेखन, गायन और अंताक्षरी जैसे प्रतिस्पर्धी साहित्यिक और पाठ्येतर कार्यक्रमों की एक श्रृंखला आयोजित की गई थी।

A week long MDP (on campus) on General Management Program, focusing on Management is being organized by IIM Shillong for the students from Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) starting from 16th to 22nd September, 2021.

The program has the participation of 6 Students who have travelled from New Delhi. The program coordinators Prof. Vishakha Bansal and Prof. Vibhas Amawate inaugurated the program in the presence of Prof. Gautam Nagi Associate Professor from LBSIM, faculty members, officers and staff from IIM Shillong.

The pandemic has locked us out our houses and changed the entire landscape of how we interact with others. The entire nation started following social distancing in a ‘new normal’ lifestyle, so as to keep the imperative need of fitness active even while following the social distancing norms we the Sports Committee of IIM Shillong is working continuously to keep the participants Fit and Healthy. As the Sports Committee of IIM Shillong, we seek to ensure that participants keep a check on their health and fitness while pursuing a rigorous and demanding MBA degree. We wish to provide adequate opportunities to participants who are interested in sports and engage participants who have an interest in sports but due to some reasons have not really been able to play regularly.

On campus we conduct Kopda Cricket Cup, Bamboo Premier League (football tournament) and Legacy cup (which involves a mix of indoor and outdoor games) to encourage participants to give it their all, and most importantly have fun while staying fit.

As a part of National Sports Day, we have previously organized a run open to IIM Shillong students. We have also actively taken part in Fit India Freedom Run first edition where the participants have committed hours for improving on their fitness, which motivated many of this year’s participants too, to be part of this prestigious event of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, where Fit India Mission has is a driving force towards Fit India Freedom Run 2.0.

As a part of it on the eve Independence Day, many have showcased their interest by sending their fitness videos. We strongly desire to be the torch bearers to all the Management institutes in India in promoting fitness and not letting the pandemic impact their desire of being fit.

IIM Shillong organized a 7 days Management Development Program for the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Services Officers at IIM Shillong Umsawli Campus. The training module has been initiated through an MoU signed between Government of Arunachal Pradesh and IIM Shillong.

The courses were designed on topics like How to meet the Challenges that comes before a Civil servant, the constitution as the rule book of Governance, Understanding the systems thinking approach, importance of Finance as a tool for development, Ways in converting challenges to opportunities, Communication is the key, Understanding Project Management, Self and leadership, Understanding the Strategic Risk management etc.

Dr. D P Goyal Director IIM Shillong in his session spoke on Unleashing the power of technology for better Governance. He mentioned about Digital India Campaign and the technology innovations that can be used in providing service to the citizens.

Dr Sanjay K Panda, Former Secretary Textile Ministry, Government of India spoke on promoting traditional strengths to ensure sustainable development, whereas Dr D Vijay Kumar D, Commissioner and Secretary Tourism Department, Meghalaya addressed the session on Tourism: a sustainable way to ensure development.

Dr Kumar highlighted the key areas including the infrastructure development in the tourism sector that can attract Indian tourists. Understanding on limitless data and how to manage data through Visualization tools were discussed in the session. The influence on Societal development need assessment, monitoring and evaluation has also been discussed in order to meet the diversified cross cultural sections of Arunachal Pradesh having many tribes and societies.”
