Pangea Series - Bridging Continents, Fostering Global Synergies

Named after the ancient supercontinent that once unified Earth’s landmasses, the Pangea Series is one of the flagship initiatives of the International Relations Committee at IIM Shillong. True to its name, the event brings together individuals from diverse regions and backgrounds, creating a platform to foster global understanding and collaboration.

The Pangea Series remains a vital forum for global engagement at IIM Shillong, regularly hosting consulates and representatives from various nations. By connecting students with experienced professionals, the event enhances their worldwide awareness and equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of international relations. This series continues as a cornerstone of the committee’s mission to promote cross-cultural learning and foster global collaboration.

Pangea Series 2024, explored the dynamic and evolving landscape of international relations, trade, and diplomacy. The event focused on the strategic synergies that can be harnessed for mutual growth and development, allowing participants to engage in thought-provoking discussions on complex global affairs.

A key highlight of the session was the interactive dialogue led by Mr Boylan, Australian Consul General, Kolkata, who shared his deep insights into global economic and strategic issues. His openness to addressing questions and engaging with students enriched the experience for all attendees. The Q&A segment allowed students to delve deeper into the complexities of international trade, diplomacy, and cross-border collaboration, sparking meaningful conversations and debates.

This direct interaction between students and experienced diplomats added a unique dimension to the event, as participants could clarify their queries, exchange ideas, and gain practical insights into real-world global challenges. The opportunity for students to engage in a dynamic question-and-answer session helped broaden their perspectives and enriched their understanding of international economic and diplomatic affairs.

Career Beyond Horizons: The International Series

The International Relations Committee (IRC) at IIM Shillong plans to conduct a series of talks (online) called the Career Beyond Horizons: The International Series.

This series will include speakers from various domains, essentially settled abroad, speaking to the students of IIM Shillong. Their talks will mainly revolve around the different career opportunities for MBA students in their domain and the country they work in.

The series will help students understand various career opportunities abroad and align their career preparations accordingly. Further, the speakers will be selected to bring in placement opportunities for the institute as much as possible.

The Atlas Series

The Atlas Series is the latest initiative launched by the IIM Shillong to equip the students of the institution with a thorough understanding of international talent markets and job opportunities, along with the skills and competencies required to succeed in them. The program utilizes insightful sessions by reputed business leaders and practical workshops conducted by certified experts and agencies, to help students navigate the complex environment of the international job market.

The Atlas Series kicked off in January 2025, with an online session with Mr. R. Veeraraghavan, the Head of HR, Learning & Development, and Talent Management at Align Manpower, Dubai, UAE, as the honoured speaker. Through the session based on the topic, “Leadership in a Multicultural and Globalized Workplace”, students learned the value of innovative talent strategies, high performance cultures, and adaptability.

The second session of the Atlas Series was conducted during the first week of February and featured Mr. Sanjay Dev Jena, Founder and Head of Strategy at The Cat’s Whiskers, a digital advertising and branding firm based in Germany, as the guest speaker. Mr. Jena used his decades of experience Mr. Jena shared valuable insights into global branding, emerging industry trends, and international career opportunities. 

British High Commission Visit

In February 2025, the International Relations Committee (IRC) hosted the British High Commissioner, Lindy Cameron at IIM Shillong, successfully facilitating a two-day Conclave on AI and Climate Change Modeling, to build upon a preliminary visit in December 2024. The conclave brought together representatives from the British High Commission, Government of Meghalaya, IIT Bombay, and other distinguished institutions.

The event was highlighted by productive roundtable discussions where diplomats from the UK joined faculty from IIM Shillong to explore potential collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya for establishing a climate modeling center at the institute.

The event serves as a milestone for IIM Shillong’s commitment towards addressing global challenges through cross-border partnerships. It represents an important step toward developing innovative solutions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and climate science, positioning the institute as a future hub for climate modeling research.

Know Your Institute – A Global Interaction Initiative

The Know Your Institute initiative is an engaging event designed to foster meaningful interactions between students and partner universities. This initiative provides a platform for students to gain insights into international programs, cultural exchanges, and global academic experiences. The event features panel discussions, networking sessions, and interactive activities such as icebreakers and breakout room discussions. With a structured roadmap for seamless execution, Know Your Institute aims to enhance cross-cultural understanding and prepare students for enriching global opportunities.
