IIM Shillong Phd Programme (Working Professionals) 2025 Admission

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have

  • A master’s degree post bachelor’s degree obtained in 10+2+3 pattern with at least 55% marks in the bachelor’s level and 60% in the master’s level; or
  • A 5-year integrated master’s degree obtained after completing higher secondary schooling in 10+2 pattern, with at least 55% marks in the bachelor’s level (if explicitly provided) and 60% in the master’s level, or
  • A master’s degree post 4 year/8 semesters bachelor’s degree in 10+2+4 pattern, with a CGPA of 6.5 or above or equivalent marks, or
  • A professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55% marks in B.Com degree

In case of grades / CGPA, the conversion to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the respective University/ Institution.

If a University/institution confirms that there is no scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and multiplying the result by 100.

The above qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or, recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Test Scores and its Validity

A valid score of GMAT, GRE, CAT (For last 2 years), GATE or JRF(NET) will be considered for admission
to PhD (WP) program. Valid score needs to be entered while filling the application form.

The following categories of candidates are to be exempted from standard tests stated above but will be
required to produce two reference letters from senior leadership for the experience:

A. Post Graduates of PGP programs (2 years full-time) from IIMs or any of the top 50 Institutions as per
NIRF 2024 (Management Category) with CCPA of 6.5 out of 10 (or equivalent) and minimum 5 years
post PGP experience, or

B. Individuals with at least 10 years of rich management work experience from government or non-government sector.

Admission Process for PhD Programme (Working Professionals) 2025

Candidates eligible as above, will be shortlisted based on recommendations of the appropriate committee. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for personal interview (and /or written test ) online for final selection.

Application Procedure

  • Filling in of the application form online by the candidate. This includes a tentative research proposal, wherein the candidate will have to present the tentative research problem proposed to be researched upon.
  • Shortlisting of candidates for the Personal Interview/Interaction based on the profile and tentative research proposal. The applicants will be informed about this process, once they were shortlisted for the process.
  • Personal Interview/Interaction with the candidate over online mode.
  • Offer of admission extended to selected candidates.

If the candidate is applying for two different groups of areas, two separate applications must be submitted.

Programme Fees

The total fees for the course are Rs. 11,00,000/- (Rs. Eleven Lakh Only) + GST as applicable. Changes, if any, will be notified before admissions.

Application Fee

The application fee is Rs.3000/- (non-refundable)

Reservation

Reservation for eligible categories will be as per Government of India rules applicable for doctoral program at the time of admission.

Program Duration

Scholars are expected to complete the program in four years and ensure that they complete the requirements of the program within this stipulated time. In case scholar is not able to complete the program in four year, they can be given two extensions of 6 months each depending upon their progress.

Stages of Doctoral Journey

Phase-I: Doctoral Course work and COMPREHENSIVE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (CQE)
Phase-II: Advanced Doctoral Courses
Phase-III: Thesis Work, Academic Workshops/Conferences, Research and final submissions

Program Continuation

The candidates who go beyond the above stipulated time may be allowed to continue in the program depending upon their progress and with payment of continuation fee but not beyond 7 years as under:

  • After completion of 4 years into the program an extension of one year will be given subject to a payment of continuation fee of Rs.25, 000/- every 6 months.
  • After completion of 5 years into the program an appeal to the Director has to be made and such participant may be allowed to continue in the program on a six-monthly extension basis for a period of maximum of two years subject to payment of a continuation fee of Rs. 50,000/- every 6 months.
  • Beyond 7 years there will be no further extension.
